Office Monitor Buying Guide for the UAE: Size, Resolution, Docking and Comfort
Monitors are the part of the desk people touch least and look at most, and the part most often left to whatever was cheapest. Size and resolution have to be chosen together, and a USB-C docking monitor can remove half the cables on the desk. Here is how to specify them properly.

Resolution and scaling, together
- Pixel density is what you actually see. The same resolution on a bigger screen means larger, blockier text.
- Scaling costs you the benefit. If a 4K 24-inch screen has to run at 150 percent scaling to be readable, you have paid for pixels and then thrown them away.
- Mixed resolutions on one desk are awkward. Windows dragged between a 4K and a Full HD screen resize and sometimes blur. Where possible, match the two screens.
- Laptop plus external: a 14-inch laptop at Full HD pairs comfortably with a 24-inch Full HD or a 27-inch QHD.
- Check what the laptop can drive. Two 4K screens at 60 Hz is more than some machines and docks support. The laptop guide covers docking limits.

For general office work, two 24-inch screens remain the best value upgrade to productivity available, and they are cheap enough to standardise across a fleet.
Panel types and what to avoid

Beyond panel type, three things matter in a UAE office: a matte finish, because a glossy panel with a glass facade behind the desk is a mirror; 300 nits or more of brightness for bright rooms; and a height-adjustable stand, which is the cheapest ergonomics you can buy.
USB-C docking monitors
A USB-C monitor with power delivery takes one cable from the laptop and provides video, charging, USB ports and often wired network. For hybrid staff it is the tidiest desk possible.
- Check the power delivery wattage against the laptop: 65 W suits most 14-inch business laptops, 90 to 100 W for larger or workstation-class machines.
- Daisy chaining lets a second monitor connect through the first on some models, which halves the cables again.
- Built-in network port is useful because it gives the laptop a wired connection without a separate dock.
- KVM function on some business monitors lets one keyboard and mouse switch between a laptop and a desktop, which suits shift desks and hot desks.
- It can replace the dock, but confirm display limits first: one USB-C monitor plus a second screen may exceed what the laptop supports.
Height, distance and eye comfort
- Top of the screen at or slightly below eye level. This is why a height-adjustable stand or a monitor arm matters more than most specifications.
- Arm’s length away, roughly 50 to 70 cm for a 24 to 27-inch screen.
- Match brightness to the room, not maximum. A screen at full brightness in an evenly lit office is a common cause of tired eyes.
- Avoid a window directly behind or in front of the screen. Beside is fine.
- Two screens: align the tops, and angle them slightly inward so both are the same distance from the eye.
- Flicker-free and low blue light modes are standard on business models; enable them and move on.

What is a good size for an office monitor?
24 inch at Full HD or 27 inch at QHD are the two configurations that work without fiddling with scaling. 24 inch suits a two-monitor desk and smaller workstations; 27 inch suits a single-monitor desk or anyone working with spreadsheets and documents side by side. Above 27 inch, resolution has to increase or text becomes coarse.
24 inch or 27 inch for office work?
Two 24-inch screens at Full HD for most staff: more usable area than one 27, cheaper, and easier to fit on a standard desk. One 27-inch at QHD where the person works in one large application, or a 27 plus the laptop screen for hybrid staff. What you should not do is buy a 27-inch at Full HD and wonder why the text looks soft.
Should I get a 27 or a 34 inch ultrawide?
An ultrawide is excellent for timelines, trading screens, wide spreadsheets and anyone who dislikes a bezel down the middle. Two separate monitors are better for anyone who wants one application genuinely full screen while referring to another, and they are cheaper and easier to replace one at a time. For most office roles, two 24s win; for editing, finance and monitoring, an ultrawide is a real upgrade.
Do we need 4K monitors?
For design, photography, video and detailed CAD, yes. For general office work, QHD at 27 inch gives most of the benefit at lower cost, and 4K at 24 inch is wasted because you will scale it back anyway. 4K also demands more from the laptop and the dock, especially at two screens.
What panel type should I buy?
IPS for office work: accurate colour, wide viewing angles, and it still looks right when a colleague leans over. VA offers deeper contrast and suits some curved screens. Avoid cheap TN panels for desk work; they are fast but the colour shifts as soon as you are not dead centre. Matte, not glossy, in any UAE office with a glass facade.
What is a USB-C docking monitor?
A monitor that charges the laptop, carries video, and passes through USB devices and often wired network, all over a single cable. Plug in one cable and the desk is connected. It removes the need for a separate dock at many desks and is the tidiest arrangement available for hybrid staff. Check the power delivery wattage matches the laptop.
Are curved monitors better?
For a single large or ultrawide screen, mildly yes: the edges are closer to a constant viewing distance and it feels more comfortable. For two monitors side by side, or for any work with straight lines such as CAD and layout, flat is usually better. It is a preference, not a performance difference.
Does blue light and flicker matter?
Flicker-free backlights and a low blue light mode are standard on business monitors and cost nothing extra, so take them. Far more important for comfort are brightness set to match the room rather than maximum, correct monitor height, and a matte finish that does not mirror the window behind the desk.
Do monitors come with the cables and a stand?
Business monitors usually include a height-adjustable stand and at least one video cable, but which cable varies. Check whether DisplayPort, HDMI or USB-C is included, because mismatched cables on delivery day are a common annoyance. We confirm the box contents when we quote.
